To start…
making sourdough breads!
What to Expect
We will hand mill our own flours, learn to make a variety of sourdough breads, and test them out on family, friends and neighbors.
We will navigate health permits & tax forms, learn about budgeting and price breads accordingly. Once we’re ready, we’ll sell at farmers market and local schools.
There will be some nature walks and homework help to boot.
❋ Guide:
Laura Pallandre
Prior to getting into farming, Laura was a Montessori teacher for over a decade. This club will be structured accordingly: children of all ages (and some adult volunteers) will develop mastery in a craft and take on greater responsibility to each other and the larger community.
Children can learn very efficiently in multi-age groups, so as long as they are interested in making bread and learning how to run a business, any age child can be a good fit for this club.
This goal of this program is also to strengthen intergenerational connections in our community. To Bloomfield’s deep bench of retired folks: you are invited to join us as volunteers, free of charge. Especially if you already volunteer for the farmers market! We will need background checks and a few other forms for the state OEC licensing department.
❋ All Ages Welcome!
❋ Cost
Based on a minimum attendance of 6 kids coming 4 days per week, the cost for this club is $50 a day. If you are enrolled in CT Care for Kids you can be reimbursed for $130 (16 hours or more) or $67 (less than 16 hours) per week.
If more than 6 kids come for four days, cost per child will be reduced.
